Privatisation

Privatisation was supposed to be the solution to many problems in the public sector. The leading opinion was "the private sector will do better". In this article I will try to find out what the goals for privatisation where, if they where met and if they could have been achieved in a better way. Looking at our current situation I'm of the opinion that privatisation can be redefined as outsourcing incompetence whilst introducing greed.

As a liberal my general position is pro privatisation. As a liberal I also acknowledge our social responsibility. With non essential services I see no objections to privatisation. When it comes to essential services I tend to look more thoroughly at the goals privatisation is supposed to achieve and the negative side effects if they are handed over completely to the market.
This separation already makes this topic hard to discuss, somehow we need to define essential services.
